Preview: „Anders. Ideal und Gegenbild“

Ihr dürft gespannt auf unsere neue Münchner Ausstellung sein: „anders. Ideal und Gegenbild“ – konzipiert und gemacht von einem Team junger WissenschaftlerInnen aus Deutschland, Syrien, Australien und der Ukraine. Wir haben acht Monate lang hart daran gearbeitet!

Stay tuned for our new exhibition in Munich: „The Ideal and the Other – a study in differences“ – planned, designed, and constructed by a team of young academics from Germany, Syria, Australia, and the Ukraine. We have been working on this project for eight months!

Unsere Ausstellung thematisiert die Konstruktion gesellschaftlicher Normen und geht der Frage nach, wie sich soziale Gruppen ästhetische und moralische Ideale als Grundlage einer gemeinsamen Identität schufen – und wie die „Anderen“, die aufgrund ihrer Herkunft, ihres Alters, Geschlechts oder sozialen Status‘ nicht zur Gemeinschaft gehörten, in der antiken Skulptur dargestellt wurden. Wir zeigen, wie Körper, Haltung, Kleidung und Attribute zu Chiffren von Superiorität und Inferiorität wurden.

The theme of the exhibiton evolves around the questions of how societies and elite groups shaped their identities and constructed ideals of beauty and moral – and the way „others“, who (because of their age, gender, origin or social status) did not belong to these groups, were represented in ancient sculpture. We are showing how body, posture, and dress were used as parts of a visual language articulating the inferiority of certain people.
